Mathieu Saindon, 22, is from Ottawa, Ontario, and began as the accompanist for the Cumberland Community Singers last season, succeeding Joel Harder, and Jacques Loubier.
At the age of 11, one of his compositions for piano solo was chosen to be sent to the National level of the "Canada Music Week Writing Competition". He had an early start in his performing career when, at the age of 13, he performed in France the first part of a nine-concert tour with violinist Marie-Claire Saindon, in cities such as Paris, Loudun, Châtellereault and Belle Ile en Mer. Since then, Mathieu has had numerous musical achievements. He has completed his Performer's Associateship with the Royal Conservatory of Toronto with First-Class Honours and has performed Mozart's "Jeunehomme" Concerto with the Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de l'Ontario français. He was also a provincial finalist in the Ontario Registered Music Teacher's Association (ORMTA), the Kiwanis Music Festival, as well as a National finalist in the Canadian Music Competition.
During the summer of 2004, Mathieu was invited to participate in the "Piano Symposium 2004", organised by McGill University and the Montreal International Music Competition association. He also was invited to perform at the Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival in St-John'S, Nfld. Mathieu has also studied at the Orford Arts Centre, under the tutelage of Henri Brassard in 2004, and Jean Saulnier and Richard Raymond in 2005. Mathieu Saindon is presently working on his Bachelor's degree in perfomance / composition with pianist Stéphane Lemelin at the University of Ottawa.
